About
The FOSD Meeting is a yearly informal meeting to bring together the community of researchers working on feature-oriented software development, including, but not limited:
- product lines
- software variability
- configuration management
- software architecture
The meeting started more than 10 years ago to bring several research groups with common interests closer together. The meeting has successfully been repeated 12 times with 20 to 50 participants each, and has established countless collaborations since. For example, see FOSD 2019 in Weimar and FOSD 2018 in Gothenburg.
The main objective is that researchers at different career stages (including undergraduate and early-career graduate students) come together to present their research, to get feedback from peers, to discuss new directions, and to initiate collaborations.
The format of an FOSD meeting consists of short presentations from each participant with plenty of time for discussion. Young researchers (graduate and undergraduate students), as well as more senior community members, present their research, provide and get feedback from others, engage into discussions and establish new collaborations. FOSD is a place for discussion, not a publication venue. Participants can present previously published work as well as unpublished work, including early ideas and work in progress. The key is to encourage discussions, to receive feedback and to grow the network of collaborating researchers.

COVID-19 Regulations on Campus
On WU Campus, during our Meeting, the “2Gplus rule” will apply for all participants and it will be your responsibility to comply.
“2Gplus” means that for attending the Meeting, a participant must be vaccinated or recovered and, on top, must present a valid negative PCR test result not older than 48 hours. The additional PCR test is a prerequisite for catering and other event services in our event rooms at WU.
- WU accepts all COVID-19 vaccines that have been officially approved by WHO (beyond the EMA-approved ones);
- Vienna offers a free PCR testing infrastructure (see below);
For our first meeting day, this requires you to provide for a valid test result before arriving at Vienna. Alternatively, you may consider arriving at Vienna early enough in order to take advantage of Vienna’s free PCR testing infrastructure.
It takes at least 24h to receive the test result. Counting backwards from our first slot on Day 1, you will have to hand-in your test sample before 9am on Monday, March 28th, as indicated at the above Web site.
For the subsequent days, we will help organize the tests.
For additional protection, we require participants to wear FFP2 masks everywhere indoors (except for speakers during their talks).
